The City of South St. Paul has the authority to close all fields in inclement weather. The city will also close the fields even if it has stopped raining, but there have been excessive amounts of rain during the day leaving the fields saturated. They will update a Field Hotline number by 4pm every day 651-306-3696 with the status. However, if inclement weather should begin after 4pm, the decision to cancel games is up to the SSPYSA Board of Directors. Coaches will be informed of any game cancellations and field closures by a board member, and they should pass that information on to their players. This information will also be posted on the website as timely as possible.
If Traveling games are cancelled, they will be rescheduled by MYSA. If In-House games are cancelled, they will not be officially rescheduled by SSPYSA. However, if individual coaches want to take it upon themselves to try and reschedule, that is up to them. There will be no referees provided for these games.
As a rule, we DO play soccer games in the rain. It is up to each individual coach whether or not they want to hold a practice in the rain. We do NOT play soccer games when lightening is present. If lightening is observed during a soccer game, the referee will suspend the game for 30 minutes. If the weather continues to be threatening, the referee has the authority to stop the game. We also do not allow coaches to hold practices when lightening is present.
